Formación

We are looking for a Space Software Engineer to join our team at ESA’s ESAC premises in Madrid, Spain.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Spanish Space Surveillance and Tracking (S3T) project.

About the client and location

The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Villanueva de la Canada, Madrid, Spain. ESAC is responsible for all of ESA’s research into astronomy and solar system exploration, as well as being the location of ESA’s space telescope. It is from here that archives are stored on ESA’s science missions, which are then made accessible for researchers all around the world.

Tasks and activities

  1. Support the development of S3T operational Software, in particular for the S3T Operations Centre (S3TOC) subsystem, developed in the context of industrial activities.
  2. Support the S3T team (System / SW Engineers, Radar Engineer, Space Debris experts) during the development and evolution of the SW for the S3T system.
  3. Support the deployment, validation and operations of S3T applications developed by industry.
  4. Support Software Development teams with the specification of Software Requirements.
  5. Support R&D studies related to the Software / System development, undertaken in the framework of the S3T Project.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  1. University Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering field.
  2. Experience in traditional and model based software engineering.
  3. Experience in data modelling and database design.
  4. Experience in requirements management.
  5. Experience with Enterprise Architect modelling tool.
  6. Experience with technologies used by the SOCCI SDE: Atlassian’s Jira and Confluence, Sonarqube, Nexus, Jenkins, Gitlab.
  7. Knowledge of concurrent programming techniques, in particular C++ and Python.
  8. Knowledge of distributed processing frameworks, in particular Kafka.
  9. Knowledge of web application and web service technologies.
  10. Knowledge of Standards (Engineering and Quality, in particular the ECSS standards).
  11. Technology trends’ awareness and interest in R&D. In particular GPGPU, blockchain technologies, AI and machine learning may be considered to be studied and/or used in the S3T project in the future.
  12. Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  13. Solution oriented mindset, with customer-focused communication skills.
  14. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Spanish is an asset.
  15. Eligibility for security clearance from your national security administration.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  1. Experience in test management, in particular knowledge of automated test frameworks like Robot.
  2. Knowledge of microservices architectures, in particular dockerisation and orchestration.
  3. Working experience with Java.
  4. Knowledge of Storm and Zookeeper.
