We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Space Optical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary space systems team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, characterization, and integration of optical links and subsystems for space applications. This role is pivotal in developing next-generation optical communication technologies for satellite platforms.

Tasks to be performed :

  • Design, sizing, and optimization of optical systems, including telescopes for space applications.
  • Perform in-depth optical link characterization and integration across various development stages.
  • Define and manage cross-subsystem interfaces (e.g., OBDH, SDR, PCDU).
  • Support end-to-end optical architecture definition and validation.
  • Analyze and ensure compliance with environmental constraints for space missions.
  • Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and software teams to ensure system coherence.
  • Generate technical documentation and support reviews and testing campaigns.

Required skills, experience and candidate profile :

  • Proven experience in characterization and integration of optical links .
  • Solid background in optical systems design and sizing , especially for space-based telescopes.
  • Practical knowledge of space optical system architectures .
  • Familiarity with optical communication protocols and standards (e.g., SDA , CCSDS ).
  • Ability to define and manage cross-functional interfaces.
  • Understanding of environmental constraints for space missions (thermal, radiation, vibration, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Additionally, we will also value experience in the following areas :

  • Experience with optical design software such as ZEMAX or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with system engineering methodologies and model-based design tools.
  • Experience in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary aerospace or defense environment.
