Vanderlande’s Technology Department is responsible for designing, specifying, and commissioning material handling systems for our customers. In this position, you will work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative, customer-focused environment to translate customer needs into simple and effective design solutions, produce manufacturing and assembly drawings, manage documentation, and create BOMs.

Position: Senior Software Engineer (Embedded)

You will design, develop, integrate, and test high-quality (real-time) applications within projects. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will develop scalable and flexible products to build the logistics systems of tomorrow. You will support colleagues during the first pilots of new products and play a key role in developing software for embedded microcontrollers.

These products serve as building blocks for the Engineering department, which integrates them into systems for our global clients. You will support the integration process where necessary.

Essential Functions:
  1. Translate concepts into realizable solutions, considering functionality, feasibility, quality, manufacturability, costs, and timelines.
  2. Collaborate with relevant disciplines and leverage team expertise.
  3. Maintain VI Equipment Product lines and supporting documentation.
  4. Plan work, estimate workload and lead time, communicate changes and risks proactively, and adapt to changes with a solution-oriented approach.
  5. Finalize designs and deliverables to ensure smooth handover to stakeholders.
  6. Coordinate technical details with VI Supply Chain.
  7. Improve existing equipment designs.
  8. Support start-ups and other departments, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  9. Engage with customers and suppliers to find optimal solutions.
  10. Occasionally travel to manufacturing facilities and project sites for process evaluation and design improvements.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (Electronics, Mechatronics, Software).
  • 7+ years’ experience in material handling or related industry.
  • Experience with embedded software design (C, C++) and optionally Industrial PC (C#, C++).
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex M4 architecture.
  • Knowledge of embedded controllers and industrial networks (PROFINET, CIP Ethernet/IP, ASi-bus).
  • Knowledge of field bus, I/O, sensors, actuators (e.g., BLDC motors, large motor drives).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing complex automated systems with PLC/Embedded controls, safety designs, motor protection, and industrial communication/networking.
  • Field engineering experience on-site.
  • Understanding of hardware and product data/document lifecycle management software.
  • Knowledge of controls engineering theories and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of Agile processes, e.g., SAFe.

Additional Information:
  • Up to 25% travel, must have own car.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • Work environment involves physical demands such as lifting 15 kg, exposure to mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise levels.
  • Work involves sitting/standing at a computer, with occasional movement around the office.
