Descripción del empleo

Hey there! Barkibu is a tech company dedicated to ensuring dogs and cats receive the medical care they need without the worry of high expenses. We dream of a world where every pet can access top-tier healthcare without financial barriers. We're committed to supporting pets and their owners for a joyful and thriving life together.

We’re a team of pet lovers from Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Croatia, Russia, Morocco, Argentina, Brazil, Romania, Italy, Poland, and Portugal. We are looking for a Software Engineer with an analytical mindset to help scale our engineering systems and infrastructure as we grow internationally.

We’re building something meaningful, with a presence in 7 countries: Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Finland. Join us and be part of our exciting journey!

As a Software Engineer...

You will be part of our Claims team, responsible for the full development lifecycle of the reimbursement claims decision-making process. Your work will include analyzing veterinary documents and invoices, implementing automated validation systems for coverage eligibility, from core strategy to deployment.

This process handles over €50 million annually in reimbursements, with an opportunity to save €2 million for the company, making this a high-impact role.

The Claims team automates pet health insurance claims processing, a critical challenge. When pet parents visit the vet, they upload documents via our app for reimbursement. Our system analyzes these documents to make accurate coverage decisions, handling complex scenarios such as:

  • Pre-existing conditions not covered by our policy
  • Waiting periods for treatments or procedures
  • Invoice evaluation according to policy terms

You will work on solutions using OCR to extract text, LLMs to interpret medical language, and business rules for policy conditions. Your contributions will help to:

  • Reduce claim resolution times
  • Automate coverage validation
  • Enhance user experience and transparency
  • Detect potential fraud or inconsistencies
  • Support veterinary decision-making with AI

We are creating a large database of structured clinical data for future innovations. We seek someone curious, interested in frameworks & languages, and eager to help shape the future of pet insurance with data, intelligence, and empathy.

At Barkibu, Software Engineers take ownership of features from ideation to deployment, wearing many hats. Your roles include:

  • Business Analyst: breaking down user needs and requirements
  • Project Manager: leading initiatives from start to finish
  • QA Specialist: ensuring high-quality releases
  • DevOps Engineer: deploying and maintaining infrastructure

You're the perfect fit if...

  • You have experience with complex challenges like this role
  • You are fluent in English; Spanish is a plus
  • You have a product mindset, focused on growth
  • You own initiatives fully, iterating quickly and shipping frequently
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments and manage tasks effectively
  • You collaborate seamlessly across groups

What do we offer?

  • Competitive salary based on skills and experience
  • Permanent contract (40h/week)
  • Remote work from anywhere in Spain
  • Great work-life balance
  • Support for learning with time and €1,000/year for growth
  • 23 days of annual leave
  • Free online English classes
  • Subsidized private health insurance
  • Monthly aid for gym, physiotherapy, and therapy
