Diabetes is a pesky monster — and that’s putting it mildly. If you’re serious about helping us face it head-on, join us!

Being a global leader in integrated Personalized Diabetes Management (iPDM), Roche collaborates with pioneers around the globe, including people with diabetes, caregivers, healthcare providers, and payers. We aim to transform and advance care provision and foster sustainable care structures. Under the brands Accu-Chek and mySugr, comprising glucose monitoring, insulin delivery systems, and digital solutions, we unite with our partners to create patient-centered value. By building and collaborating in an open ecosystem, connecting devices and digital solutions, and contextualizing relevant data points, we enable deeper insights and a better understanding of diabetes, leading to personalized and effective therapy adjustments.

Developing software is great, but developing software with a purpose is even better! As a Senior Software Engineer (Android), you’ll work on a product that helps people with the most precious thing they have — their health. In collaborative teams of developers, designers, product owners, and QA experts, you’ll experience best-in-class software development practices daily and contribute to software that meets the highest expectations — we do not put our users' lives at risk!

Here’s what we’re looking for :

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer(Android) who will have a significant impact on the software development process and moving the entire team forward. You apply your experience in architectural and technical decision-making, ensuring high code quality and contributing your technical knowledge as a foundation for strategic product decisions, identifying and driving improvements of the product development process and its infrastructure. You may act as an internal technical consultant for pre-sales, sales, and marketing activities, including hiring decisions.

You will primarily be working in a global set-up with teams in India, Austria, and Spain.

Your upcoming mission :

Support our vision and push even further in the mobile sector to develop at scale and guide the development of our entire efforts on the Android platform

Work autonomously in an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with developers, designers, QA, and product owners

Bring a fresh perspective and creative approach to the development of our Android products

Essential skills for this mission :

You have at least 7+ years of experience working as an Android engineer with good knowledge of Kotlin

You have experience working iteratively and maintaining live digital products

You have a desire to craft beautiful, usable interfaces across all different devices running Android

You have a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent technical knowledge

You are empathetic towards the user experience and thoughtful about what we can do to make it better

You are well acquainted with the Android platform and APIs

You have a passion for clean code and solid, future-proof architectures and you have (automated) testing in mind while you develop production code

You work with an eye toward accessibility, performance, and systemic solutions

You have a proven track record of building reliable, performant, scalable, and understandable solutions

You enjoy guiding and sharing your knowledge with other developers

You are proficient in English, both written and verbal, including technical terminology, and demonstrate effectiveness in communication, excelling in providing and receiving feedback.

Bonus Skills :

Understanding of medical, security, and privacy regulations

Knowledge of the diabetes industry or other comparable health industries

Knowledge of Xamarin or other platforms.

Here's what you can expect from us :

Ambitious and passionate people building meaningful products

An innovative agile working environment allowing for collaboration with smart people and knowledge sharing in cross-functional teams

You will learn about the wide range of technologies we employ, gaining a rich understanding of the specific requirements of medical software, be it security, medical risk management, safe and resilient programming, or certifications and audits

We are always trying to stay on top of the game and use modern tools and approaches standardized across the industry.

We welcome technical evangelists, so if you are interested in any thought leadership contributions (blogs, conferences) within the realm of the organization, we are happy to support you.

Our codebase is Kotlin-first with the usage of Dagger, Coroutines, reactive programming with Flows, Material design, ViewModel architecture, and more

Unit tests and continuous integration are an important and integral part of our development process. We know there is no excuse not to write tests and the only way to go fast is to go well

You will learn about the wide range of technologies we employ, from native mobile development to infrastructure-as-code in our cloud environment, gaining a rich understanding of the specific requirements of medical software, be it security, medical risk management, safe and resilient programming, or certifications and audits.

You will have direct contact with our users, learning about their daily struggles living with diabetes, as well as customers and partners, understanding the unique needs and mechanics of healthcare systems worldwide.
