Pearson is hiring a Senior AI Engineer for the English Language Learning division. This role focuses on building backend services, APIs, and AI-enabled features for education products. You will work within a hybrid office setup and collaborate with data science and platform teams to deploy scalable AI solutions.

You will contribute to AI integrations, ensure quality through automated testing, and follow best practices in DevOps and security while delivering high-impact learning tools globally.

Formación

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and modern development practices.
• Hands-on Python development experience.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• Familiarity with APIs, microservices, and backend services.

Role profile

This position is suited to a software engineer with practical experience building and maintaining backend services, APIs, and cloud-based applications. The role contributes to AI-enabled product capabilities, including integration with AI and LLM-based services, while working with guidance from senior engineers for complex architecture and design decisions. This role is expected to deliver well-scoped tasks independently, collaborate effectively with product and engineering colleagues, and follow established engineering practices for quality, security, testing, and maintainability.

The work is weighted toward new feature development, with some operational support, documentation, and continuous improvement activities as part of normal team delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain backend components for digital products within agreed scope and team standards.
• Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA, data science, and other engineers to clarify requirements and deliver product increments.
• Contribute to backend services, APIs, and microservices, including AI integration, with support from senior engineers where needed.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, estimation, and planning activities.
• Support the integration and operationalization of AI models and services in collaboration with data science and platform teams.
• Apply engineering practices such as clean code, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and DevOps ways of working.
• Maintain clear technical documentation for implemented features, services, and operational procedures.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve defects and production issues within the team support model.
• Contribute to security, privacy, reliability, and compliance requirements by following established policies and guidance.
• Share knowledge with team members and contribute ideas for improving team practices, tools, and product quality.

Most desirable qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in software engineering principles, development processes, technologies, extreme development methodologies and practices and industry trends for Development and QA.
• Hands‑on experience with programming languages such as Python
• Proficiency in at least one of the modern cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Proficiency in best practices for software engineering (code review, multi‑stage testing, CI/CD)
• Experience with scalable development (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Some experience with data processing (building pipelines, data versioning)
• Working experience in Agile practices, product and project management principles.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Able to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical individuals.
• Experience with working in a diverse, remote, asynchronous team
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
