This hybrid freelance position focuses on building and maintaining WordPress and Shopify websites, providing an opportunity to transition into a full-time role. At The Roadmap, we’ve helped over 300 Irish businesses grow quickly, and we are now expanding into the UK, Spain, and beyond. As our team grows, we are seeking a skilled, experienced, and reliable Senior Web Developer to join our core website delivery team.

This is a hybrid freelance role based in Madrid, requiring 2 days per week in our central Madrid office, with the remaining days remote. There is a clear pathway to transition into a full-time role with increased responsibilities and leadership opportunities over time.

You will work on a variety of websites, primarily WordPress and Shopify, contributing technical excellence, problem-solving skills, and long-term strategic thinking to each project.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Build and maintain websites on WordPress and Shopify
• Handle complex technical tasks beyond junior developers' scope, including integrations and performance optimizations
• Provide clear, prompt responses to internal team questions and occasional client communication via managers
• Support hosting setups, domain transfers, backups, and email configurations
• Resolve technical issues swiftly and effectively to ensure timely project delivery
• Stay current with modern web UI trends, automation tools, and AI applications in web development
• Collaborate with a stable, experienced team with 3-5+ years of working together

• Has 5+ years of hands-on web development experience, ideally 7 to 10 years
• Is proficient in WordPress and Shopify, with experience across multiple client websites
• Understands hosting platforms like Hostinger, SiteGround, and others, and knows how to deploy websites live
• Communicates clearly and honestly, able to explain technical issues without jargon
• Can work independently and as part of a long-term team focused on building smart systems
• Delivers high-quality work without cutting corners or overcomplicating solutions
• Wants to grow within a team that values good work, trust, and integrity
