Senior Research Support technician We seek a research assistant (“Tècnic superiors de la recerca”) to give support to the project “A Network Science Approach to Social Cohesion in European Societies" (PATCHWORK) funded by the European Research Council. This international project investigates social cohesion in different societies via large-scale cross-national survey data on networks.
Tasks :
Give support to research based on the statistical analysis of data from a cross-national survey on citizens' personal networks in relation to the social cohesion of societies.
Conduct statistical simulations of societal networks and statistical analysis of survey data.
Contribute to (at least 2) articles for high-quality international scientific journals that align with the project's objectives and requirements.
Conduct interviews using CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) and / or CAVI (Computer-Assisted Video Interviewing).
The selected candidate will work closely with Dr. Miranda Lubbers and actively participate in the COALESCE Lab, collaborating with other members, including PhD students and other postdocs. They will also take part in the weekly group meetings where ongoing research projects and articles are discussed, and will assist in the group’s activities.
Job position requirements (skills / languages / required experience)
Academic degree : Master’s Degree in Sociology or Computational Social Sciences
Work experience (as a research technician, intern, or contracted predoctoral researcher), especially in competitively funded and collaborative research projects, and in tasks involving data collection, statistical analysis, and visualization of quantitative data.
Computer skills : Extensive experience with :
Statistical software for quantitative data analysis and visualization (R)
Software for quantitative analysis and visualization of personal networks (networks of social relationships between individuals), using Network Canvas, Visone, Gephi, and / or R
Linguistic skills : Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, the language of communication for the project.

Previous experience with social network simulation (demonstrable).
Participation (even if not hired) in collaborative research projects with competitive funding, specialized courses, oral presentations and posters at academic conferences, and academic stays abroad.

Knowledge of software for quantitative analysis and visualization of personal networks (social relationship networks), using Network Canvas, Visone, Gephi, and / or R : 0–10 points
Proficiency in Microsoft environment (Word, Excel, OneDrive) : 0–5 points

No professional research experience : 0 points
Experience as a mid-level research support technician or contracted researcher in research projects or similar, involving data collection, analysis, and visualization : 1–6 points
Experience as a senior research technician or similar level involving quantitative data collection, statistical analysis, and visualization : 7–10 points Motivation letter : 0–5 points
Professionalism, motivation, and written communication skills in English : 0–5 points Other CV qualifications : 0–10 points
Participation (not necessarily hired) in collaborative and competitively funded research projects, prior experience with data simulation (especially networks), specializedçcourses in relevant areas (social network analysis, simulation, quantitative survey data analysis), presentations at academic conferences, academic stays abroad, and contributions to scientific articles will be valued. The selection process is conducted in a single phase.
