Job summary

Sécheron Hasler Group in Madrid is seeking a Senior R&D Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design and industrialization of high‑power AC/DC, DC‑DC and DC/AC converters for rail, with collaboration across engineering, QA and project management.

You will model converters, specify IGBT-based VSC/LCC, perform harmonics and filter design, coordinate testing, and prepare documentation. Fluent Spanish and English, proactive attitude, and a track record of delivering customer milestones are required.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Power Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in power electronics.
• Knowledge of IGBT-based VSC and LCC concepts.
• Proficiency in MATLAB/SIMULINK or PSIM tools.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and industrialization of AC/DC, DC-DC and DC/AC converters in the 1-10MW range.
• Modeling of Voltage Source and Line Commutated Converters.
• Specification of IGBT, cooling systems and magnetics; harmonics, filters and power factor studies.
• Coordinate protections, validation, and testing; prepare testing documentation.
• Analyze customer specifications and prepare offers with cost calculations.
• Provide technical leadership in project execution and support management.

For our office in Madrid, we are currently looking for a Senior R&D Power Electronics Engineer.

Main tasks

• Design and industrialization of AC/DC. DC-DC and DC/AC converters in the range of 1-10MW and 500-1500Vdc.
• Modelling of Voltage Source and Line Commutated Converters.
• Specification of components (IGBT, cooling systems, magnetics) DC & AC Harmonics calculation, filter design, power factor compensation.
• Verification of compliance with specifications and standards Coordination of protections, validation, and testing.
• Preparation of converter testing documentation.
• Analysis of customer specifications.
• Offer preparation and cost calculation.
• Technical leadership in customer project execution and support to project management department.

Requirements

• Master's Degree or above in Power Electronics Engineering or related field with a minimum experience of 5 years.
• Understanding of functional characteristics of Power Electronics and knowledge of control for converters
• Knowledge in IGBT-based Voltage source Converters (VSC).
• Knowledge of Thyristor-based Line Commutation Converters (LCC)
• Knowledge of simulation tools like MATLAB/SIMULINK, PSIM, etc.
• A positive attitude, initiative, proactiveness and an enthusiasm and passion for power electronics, and renewable energy.
• Demonstrable success in achieving customer milestones and exceeding quality expectation
• Good problem solving with minimum supervision and solution building skills.
• Good communication skills to team, peers, and management.
• Good communication in Spanish and English.
