Position Details

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will execute high-level ICS & Application Engineering deliverables on various automation projects using ABB products and systems. You will interpret customer specifications, produce control systems according to requirements, and work in a hybrid model based in Madrid, Spain. Main stakeholders include Operations and Engineering groups.

1. Provide technical solutions on time and within budget, collaborating with project managers and engineers.
2. Train and mentor new team members.
3. Create structured, maintainable applications, deliverables, and documentation.
4. Engage with clients to interpret needs and perform quality control.
5. Review engineering deliverables, ensure standards compliance, coordinate technical queries, assist in technical sales, and produce engineering estimates.

Qualifications for the role

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Automation or Industrial Engineering, focusing on process automation in sectors like Power, Chemical, Water, etc.
• 5+ years experience in process automation systems, especially application engineering, HMI, communication interfaces, FAT/SAT.
• Strong knowledge of DCS/ICS standards and specifications.
• Experience in design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of DCS/ICS applications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects across disciplines.
• Leadership, decision-making, time management, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Networks, IT/OT Systems, and Cyber Security.
• Understanding of OT protocols like Modbus, IEC104, OPC, IEC61850.
• Experience with ICS systems such as DCS/PCS, ESD, F&G.
• Familiarity with ABB systems (800xA, Symphony Plus, etc.) or equivalents.
• Proficiency in IEC-61131-3 languages.
• Experience in engineering, integrating, configuring, testing, and validating ICS systems.
• Willingness to travel approximately 30%.
• Fluent in Spanish and English; additional languages are a plus.
