Senior Platform Engineer with GCP (Europe, remote)
Svitla Systems, Inc. is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Europe. The role supports a broker platform that offers brokers real-time risk capacity using a proprietary algorithm and the latest machine learning technology to make faster, more informed decisions, built on Google Cloud. The platform provides 24 / 7 access and supports quoting across four Lloyd’s of London syndicates. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain testable, secure GCP platforms and infrastructure that provide the foundation for all critical software to be built upon.
- Empower product squads to own how they deliver software robustly and at scale.
- Collaborate with developers, technology, and product teams to design and build robust, scalable systems.
- Create and maintain operational documentation as required.
- Advocate for best practices in maintaining and operating stable, robust software systems.
- Provide operational support for the systems owned by the platform squad.
- Serve as a domain expert in platform and cloud infrastructure technologies.
- Uphold and advance the engineering team’s principles and ways of working.
- Mentor and coach colleagues in engineering and business domains.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience with at least one primary cloud provider (GCP, AWS).
- Solid knowledge of cloud architecture principles and highly available systems.
- Knowledge of all phases of the software development life cycle and agile methodologies.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerisation technologies.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform.
- Be comfortable writing production software in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Go, Java).
- Understanding deploying and managing RESTful Web APIs.
- Understanding building software using continuous integration, with knowledge of common tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, and Tekton.
- Strong knowledge of build tools (e.g., Maven) and version control tools (e.g., Git).
- Experience with event monitoring systems such as Prometheus.
- Knowledge of database systems, including PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with project management and workflow tools (e.g., Jira).
- Understanding of system administration in Linux / Unix environments.
- Familiarity with network engineering, e.g., protocols, routing, switching, filtering, and firewall rules.
- Familiarity with industry standard security principles and knowledge of security and systems best practices in a cloud environment.
- Experience working in teams that followed a Continuous Delivery approach.
