Job summary

Axpo Group in Madrid is seeking a (Senior) Operational Risk Specialist to advance the operational risk framework and drive risk assessment programs within a fast-paced, multinational energy setting.

You will lead workshops, advise stakeholders, and enhance risk reporting while collaborating across teams to strengthen internal controls and risk culture. Strong English and Spanish communication is essential.

Qualifications

• University degree in business, finance, or related field; energy economics an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of operational risk management and internal control systems.

Responsibilities

• Support and develop the operational risk management framework, policies, methodologies, and tools.
• Lead operational risk assessment workshops and deep dives from planning to reporting.
• Advise stakeholders on risk identification, assessment, controls/mitigation, and monitoring.
• Identify, assess, mitigate, monitor, and report operational risks for material transactions, business cases, projects, and new products.
• Lead root cause analysis for operational risk events and report lessons learned.
• Strengthen the internal control system and risk culture across the business area.
• Build and analyze operational risk data to identify trends and escalate issues.
• Build mutual trusted relationships with all stakeholders.
• Coach and mentor less experienced team members on operational risk matters.

What you will do

• Support and develop the operational risk management framework, policies, methodologies, and tools.

• Lead operational risk assessment workshops and deep dives, from planning to reporting.

• Advise stakeholders at all management levels on operational risk identification, assessment, control/mitigation, and monitoring.

• Identify, assess, mitigate, monitor, and report operational risks for material transactions, business cases, projects, and new products.

• Lead root cause analysis for operational risk events, align corrective measures with stakeholders and report lessons learnt

• Strengthen the internal control system and operational risk culture across the business area.

• Build and analyze operational risk data to identify trends and elevate issues where needed.

• Build mutual trusted relationships with all stakeholders

• Coach and mentor less experienced team members on operational risk matters.

What you bring & who you are

• You hold a University Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or other related fields; further education in Energy Economics, Operational Risk Management, Internal Audit or similar is an advantage

• You possess strong knowledge of operational risk management practices and of the internal control system

• You are a thorough and diligent worker, who has strong organizational and prioritization skills and thrives in a dynamic multi-national environment

• You are able to foster effective communication with stakeholders on all levels and build mutually trusted relationships

• You have proven experience in energy trading, energy markets, and related processes and controls.

• You have experience in data analytics and visualization skills, and knowledge of operational risk management practices.

• You are a team player with excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish; additional languages are a plus.
