MERN Software Engineer or Tech Lead

Mid Weight, Senior, Principal, Staff or Manager Level

Remote (EU) | Full-Time | Scale-up | EdTech / Cyber Security

A fast-growing online cybersecurity training platform is hiring Software Engineers, Principal Engineers, and an Engineering Manager to help scale its service for millions of aspiring security practitioners worldwide.

The organization’s mission is to make learning and teaching cybersecurity more accessible through engaging, gamified exercises and challenges.

Role Overview

You will work in a small, agile squad made up of software engineers, a product manager, and a designer—to maintain the existing codebase, develop new features, and drive growth-focused engineering initiatives.

This position involves taking concepts from ideation to completion through rapid iterations, leveraging a build–measure–learn approach.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and implement software solutions with a focus on scalability, reliability, and security.
  2. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers on project planning and execution.
  3. Mentor and coach developers, offering technical guidance and constructive feedback.
  4. Participate in code and design reviews, ensuring adherence to technical standards.
  5. Write high-quality, maintainable code using modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, React).
  6. Develop and maintain databases and data models, optimizing queries for performance.
  7. Monitor and analyze system performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  8. Stay informed on emerging technologies and share knowledge with the team.
  9. Contribute to Agile practices including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  10. Support continuous improvement of development processes and engineering practices.

Skills & Experience

  1. 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with both back-end and front-end development.
  2. Proven experience leading a software engineering team in a startup or scale-up SaaS environment.
  3. Hands-on expertise with Git, NodeJS, CSS, HTML, jQuery, JavaScript, React, TypeScript, Redux, MongoDB, AWS (MERN stack).
  4. Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
  5. Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines.
  6. Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  7. Solid grasp of Agile methodologies, including Scrum.
  8. Interest in cybersecurity or edtech.
  9. Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication in English.
