Vonage, a leading product in WebRTC video communications, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Media Cloud Engineering teams. Successful Candidates will explore new ways to further enhance the Vonage Video Platform, our WebRTC-compliant Communications PaaS, with improved media communications, VoIP, quality and reliability optimization, Scalable and Cloud resilient Architecture Designs, and beyond.

The candidate will be interested in both feature development as well as systems engineering with a heavy focus on quality, fault-tolerance and reliability. He / she will have a taste for data driven approaches to get insights, and also for tracking and adopting leading Industry Standards. Drivennes and motivation to see his / her work used and deployed in large-scale production systems with extremely high availability will be a must.

What you'll do

• Hands-on software development and system design.
• Implement new features, and push further media communications and VoIP technology and Interoperability of the Video Vonage Communications Platform.
• Contribute to server and software architectures for real-time media streaming, VoIP, Media Interoperability, related systems engineering in the Cloud, accounting for interaction with auto-scaling, high availability, etc.
• Contribute to maintaining and evolving media processing software stacks including both proprietary and open-source software.
• Design and develop approaches to measure, evaluate and improve service quality.
• Working on multiple projects involving high-performance media servers and signaling and coordinating with other teams.

What you'll bring

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent.
• Experience with Media Communications software technology (e.g. at least some of codecs, streaming, VoIP, SIP, media protocols, QoS / QoE, media processing, etc.) and related industry open-source software.
• C / C++ or Java coding skills, and willingness to learn more languages.
• Experience working on backend and / or frontend software engineering.
• Excellent debugging and problem solving skills.
• Good understanding of algorithms , data structures , memory management, and concurrency .
• Track record of delivering high quality code in a fast-paced environment.
• High accountability and rigor, willing to work on tests automation as needed.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

A plus, if one or more of the following are also provided :

• Experience with Image Processing and / or AI for Image / Audio Processing
• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes , Helm, Docker .
• Experience with CI / CD in Jenkins or similar tool
• Hands-on experience with some of the following media technologies : H.264 / VP8 / OPUS / AAC codecs, WebRTC standards, RTP / RTCP, STUN, TURN, ICE, VoIP, SIP, H.323, SDPs, etc…
• Hands-on experience with Freeswitch software, Event Socket Library, call plans.
• Some data science skills to understand and analyze implementations behavior in production.
