General Counsel - Europe

The General Counsel Europe will be the primary legal advisor to the European division of Americold. This role involves providing legal support on operational, commercial, and governance issues, with a focus on Corporate Compliance and Commercial Transactions. The position includes legal consultation, document review and drafting, and managing legal processes to uphold the organization’s rights and obligations, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and the Managing Director Europe.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Preparing and reviewing legal documents related to business services, warehousing, vendor contracts, IT agreements, licensing, M&A, real estate, and MOUs.
2. Advising on commercial finance, business development, and dispute resolution.
3. Providing legal counsel to senior management on corporate governance, development projects, real estate, and related issues.
4. Developing programs to mitigate legal, regulatory, and reputational risks, including areas like anti-bribery, competition law, data privacy, cybersecurity, and ESG.
5. Managing intellectual property issues, including trademark registration and compliance monitoring.
6. Offering legal support to warehouse managers on corporate and regulatory matters.
7. Engaging third-party legal counsel as needed, focusing on cost efficiency.
8. Advising management on legal issues and representing the company in disputes.

The role reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer.

Qualifications include:

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school.
• Experience in in-house legal roles and law firms, preferably with a multinational corporation supporting European operations.
• Strong cross-border experience in commercial law, transactions, and M&A.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and contract databases.
• Excellent communication skills across cultures and languages, with the ability to advise senior executives and board members.
• Deep knowledge of compliance, privacy, and GDPR requirements.
• Outstanding legal, organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
