Job summary

Upsun is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build the backend services behind our billing stack, including invoices, taxes, usage reporting, and external integrations. You will own complex components end to end, driving reliability and security while collaborating with Finance, Product, and Support.

This hands-on role requires Go expertise, system design skills, and experience with relational databases, multi-currency handling, and event-driven architectures.

Qualifications

• Go backend development experience in distributed systems.
• Experience designing backend systems and production-ready architecture.
• Strong relational database skills (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and data modeling.
• Proven experience with third-party API integrations and idempotent design.
• Background in payment/billing domains with emphasis on accuracy and testing.
• Understanding of security considerations in payment systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical work.
• Interest in billing and financial systems as a focus area.
• Clear, async communication across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain billing services and API integrations.
• Own end-to-end features for usage-based billing and invoicing.
• Shape component architecture, weigh trade-offs, ensure reliability.
• Troubleshoot distributed systems and fix root causes.
• Improve reliability, observability, and security within your scope.
• Contribute to anti-abuse measures and compliance features.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Collaborate with Finance, Product and Support across time zones.
