Octopus Energy is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to scale our ES platform and customer onboarding flows. You will own frontend architecture end-to-end, collaborating with international teams across Europe while focusing on TypeScript, React, and Next.js.

The role centers on the private area, bill management, and marketing dashboards, with a flexible move into backend tasks (Python/Django) if you have interest and skills. Barcelona or Valencia hybrid work.

Formación

• Strong, proven experience as a Senior Frontend Engineer with modern frontend architecture.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and React.
• Hands-on experience with Next.js, ideally hosted on Vercel.
• Experience with GraphQL as a data layer.
• CSS-in-JS solutions; PandaCSS exposure is a plus.
• Solid testing practices with Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright.
• Experience in a monorepo structure.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join a very special team within Octopus Energy — the team responsible for building and scaling octopusenergy.es, our customer onboarding flows, and our customer private area.

You'll act as the technical driver of this space, working hand in hand with Marketing and other internal stakeholders, while collaborating regularly with our international engineering teams across Europe. We're looking for someone who thrives on solving real problems for real customers, who's comfortable owning frontend architecture end-to-end, and who's flexible enough to jump into different areas of the business as needed.

Your focus will be primarily Frontend, but if you have an interest in Backend or a Fullstack mindset, that's a big plus.

What you’ll do

The Octopus Energy tech team is responsible for the sites, services, and tariffs used by millions of customers worldwide. From building cutting-edge time-of-use tariffs to gamifying user experiences, we tackle a wide variety of exciting challenges to push the energy revolution forward.

Our teams are multi-disciplined and collaborate internationally, meaning you'll have the support and resources to work with top-tier talent and deliver high-impact global solutions.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer in this team, you will:

• Collaborate internationally: Work closely with Octopus Energy ES and various global teams to develop and integrate new features.
• Own key product modules: Contribute directly to the private area, bill management, saving sessions, customer onboarding optimization, and marketing dashboards, all from a frontend perspective.
• Drive fast-paced impact: Deliver code that directly impacts customers. Our priorities adapt to real-world needs, meaning the pace is fast and the feedback cycle is satisfyingly quick.
• Thrive in an agile culture: Enjoy flat hierarchies and an open environment that fosters innovation, flexibility, and creativity.

What you’ll need to thrive

Fluent spoken English is absolutely essential. The team is international, so English will be the language you use on a daily basis.

On the technical side, you should have:

• Strong, proven experience as a Senior Frontend Engineer, with a solid grasp of modern frontend architecture.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and React.
• Hands-on experience with Next.js, ideally hosted on Vercel.
• Experience working with GraphQL as a data layer.
• Comfort with CSS-in-JS solutions (experience with PandaCSS is a plus).
• Solid testing practices using tools like Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
• Experience working within a monorepo structure.
• A flexible, collaborative mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Nice to have

• Interest or experience in Backend development, particularly Python (Django).
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL.
• A Fullstack mindset: curiosity about the full picture, not just the frontend layer.
