Job summary

iPronics is seeking a highly skilled Senior Firmware Engineer to design and develop firmware for optical amplification modules within AI and datacenter deployments. You will work closely with hardware and embedded system engineers to ensure robust firmware, spanning control loops, IO interfaces and diagnostics, for scalable optical circuit switching solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development for optical modules or telecom/datacenter products.
• Proficient with hardware analysis tools and embedded C/C++.
• Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
• Experience with board bring-up, hardware validation and debugging using JTAG/SWD.
• Familiar with I2C, SPI, UART and digital/analog interfaces.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on experience with optical lab tools.

Job description

iPronics is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on and motivated Senior Firmware Engineer with experience in optical modules and excellent knowledge of relevant hardware to join our rapidly growing team. In this role, you will work on the design and development of firmware for our optical amplification modules that form part of iPronics optical circuit switching solutions. You will collaborate closely with hardware and embedded system engineers to ensure our optical modules meet requirements for large-scale deployment in AI and datacenter applications.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop deploy and maintain embedded firmware
• Implement control algorithms, state machines, peripheral control and host interaction features
• Create firmware test processes and perform functional and robustness testing
• Collaborate with optical, hardware and validation teams to improve firmware
• Support hardware bring-up, system integration and root-cause analysis of complex issues
• Develop and maintain firmware architecture, diagnostics and monitoring capabilities
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to hardware/firmware co-design decisions
• Implement development processes and practices to ensure code reusability and readability as well as product performance
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date firmware documentation

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, particularly developing firmware for optical modules, transceivers, amplifiers, telecom systems or datacenter networking products
• Proficiency with hardware analysis tools such as oscilloscopes, dataloggers, protocal analyzers, JTAG debuggers.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, Git version control and Python for test automation, debugging and data analysis
• Proficient with both Windows and Linux OS
• Experience with board bring-up, hardware validation and debugging using JTAG/SWD
• Experience developing firmware using RTOS frameworks such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr
• Excellent understanding of hardware/firmware integration and digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, ADCs, DMA, DACs, microcontrollers, current drivers and sensor interfaces.
• Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design and hardware fundamentals
• Experience with control loops (e.g. PID controllers), optical signal monitoring, diagnostics, TEC control, interrupt-driven architectures and fault management
• Strong problem-solving, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Hands-on experience with optical comms lab tools such as optical power meters, sampling oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and fiber components.

Good to have:

• Familiarity with optical module standards such as CMIS
• Experience with optical networking, datacenter interconnects or telecom systems
• Experience with high-speed communication interfaces
