What does a Senior Data Scientist do at Busuu?

• Data exploration and discovery: Extract data and use statistical techniques to analyze and visualize it to uncover actionable insights for making data-driven decisions.
• Training dataset ETLs: Collaborate with ML Engineers to develop robust production-ready ETLs for generating training datasets and feature engineering jobs.
• Advanced model development: Build and optimize an extensive variety of machine learning models for predictive analytics, recommendation and ranking systems, generative AI, optimal search, item response theory, lifetime value estimation, computer adaptive testing, spaced repetition and rating algorithms, churn prediction and many more.
• Collaborative cross-functional work: Collaborate with diverse roles such as ML Engineers, Data Engineers, Business Analysts and Product Managers to embed AI into user-facing and business-critical production systems.
• Innovate: Help shape our AI, data science and A/B testing experimentation strategies and lead applied research spikes to learn about new technologies or ML techniques (such as Deep Learning or LLMs integration).

What we’re looking for in a Senior Data Scientist:

• Excellent skills in Data Science and Machine Learning techniques. Capacity to build, train, evaluate and debug supervised and unsupervised ML models. Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Advanced programming skills in Python, SQL and Gitflow. Ability to write complex and production-ready ETLs and training processes. Exposure to AWS, Redshift, Sagemaker, Airflow or Kubernetes is highly appreciated.
• Highly-adaptable generalist Data Scientist who is able to collaborate and support different functions within the team, be aware of ML production challenges and keep an impact-driven mindset and capacity to learn new techniques and approaches for different domains (Product, Finance, Marketing).
• Experience in the education / ed-tech sector will be very much appreciated.
