We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the architecting and development of our core data platform, including the data warehouse and infrastructure, data modeling in collection tools, and support for data system integrations.
This is a Remote First role, with a preference for candidates based in Spain or Germany due to company registered locations. We are open to candidates within +/- 2 hours CET.
How you'll help build one
- Data Platform Ownership: Lead design and implementation of our scalable, robust data platform.
- Data Modeling: Engage in data modeling for third-party tools like Benchling, optimizing data structures for integration and use. Support stakeholders with insights and recommendations to improve data models.
- Data Visualization and Analytics Culture: Develop and implement analytics layers to support insights, ML development, and dashboards.
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage cloud infrastructure to support data operations and applications.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the tech roadmap, aligning initiatives with business goals.
- Supervision and Mentorship: Oversee and mentor juniors or interns, ensuring best practices and high-quality code.
- Cross-Domain Collaboration: Work with domain experts, software engineers, and data scientists to model data and ensure seamless integration of cloud services.
Who you are
- At least 3 years of experience in data engineering and platform architecture, especially in startups or scale-ups.
- Expert in data modeling and database design; experience with scientific data is a plus.
- Proven ability to lead challenging projects in research or similar fields.
- Collaborative, open-minded communicator.
- Proficient in SQL and Python for ETL pipelines.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud services, with hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform or AWS preferred.
- Comfortable working remotely or in hybrid teams.
- Proficient in English.
- Adaptable to changing technology and business needs.
- Eager to learn and stay updated with industry trends.
- Optional: Experience with modeling materials engineering, chemistry, or biological data.
