We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the architecting and development of our core data platform, including the data warehouse and infrastructure, data modeling in collection tools, and support for data system integrations.

This is a Remote First role, with a preference for candidates based in Spain or Germany due to company registration, but we are open to candidates within +/- 2 hours CET.

Responsibilities

1. Data Platform Ownership: Lead the design and implementation of our scalable and robust data platform.
2. Data Modeling: Engage in data modeling for third-party tools like Benchling, and support stakeholders with data model improvements.
3. Data Visualization and Analytics: Develop analytics layers to support insights, ML, and dashboards.
4. Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage cloud infrastructure to support data operations.
5. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the tech roadmap aligned with business goals.
6. Supervision and Mentorship: Oversee and mentor junior team members.
7. Cross-Domain Collaboration: Work with domain experts, engineers, and data scientists to model data and integrate services.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in data engineering and platform architecture, especially in startups or scale-ups.
• Proficiency in data modeling, database design, SQL, and Python ETL pipelines.
• Experience with cloud services, preferably Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
• Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work in remote/hybrid teams.
• Adaptability to changing technology landscapes and a passion for learning.
• Optional: Experience with scientific data modeling in materials engineering, chemistry, or biology.
