As a member of the R&D team, you will design Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms for high-speed intensity-modulation and direct-detect (IM / DD) optical communication systems in automotive applications.
You will work closely with the Analog and Mixed-Signal (AMS) and Digital IC design teams to contribute to system architecture, partition analog and digital implementations, model channels, and support IC design, verification, and characterization.
Your key responsibilities will include :
- Channel Modeling : Model optoelectronic components (e.g., laser drivers, Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIA)), photonics (e.g., VCSEL, PIN photodiodes), and optical transmission effects (e.g., chromatic dispersion (CD), effective modal bandwidth (EMB), modal noise (MN), and mode partition noise (MPN)), understanding their impact on signal distortion, both linear and non-linear, noise and jitter.
- Algorithm Development : Invent, simulate, and validate energy-efficient DSP algorithms in both floating-point and fixed-point precision. These algorithms will be used for adaptive AMS blocks calibration, adaptive channel equalization, timing recovery, symbol synchronization, FEC encoding / decoding, and signal quality assessment for both electrical and optical physical layers.
- Hardware Testing & Optimization : Measure and optimize algorithms on actual hardware, correlating models and performance with prior simulations. You will refine models and update simulation environments to ensure alignment with experimental data.
Requirements :
- At least 10 years of industry experience in related fields.
- A master’s or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics is highly recommended, although not strictly required.
- Strong background in Information Theory, DSP, and FEC for optical and / or electrical communications.
- Experience in modeling communication systems, with a preference for expertise in optoelectronics and optical channel modeling.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, C / C++, or similar.
- Familiarity with Unix operating systems, particularly Linux, and version control systems, particularly SVN.
- Experience with collaboration with IC designers.
- Knowledge of intensity-modulation / direct-detect (IM / DD) optical communication systems.
- Ability to present and defend technical information to colleagues.
Personal Profile :
- Commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning.
- A critical and constructive mindset.
- Willingness to take responsibility from implementation to validation in the laboratory.
- Proactive, problem-solving attitude.
- Attention to detail, especially when handling production-related information.
- Strong commitment to high-quality, bug-free development.
- Team-oriented mindset and ability to collaborate effectively.
