Job summary

Thomson Reuters in Barcelona seeks a Senior Legal Counsel to support global business, partnering with Go-to-Market, Finance, Product and other Reuters business functions. The role is hybrid between office and remote work in accordance with the Flexible Work Policy (3 days in office, 2 remote).

The ideal candidate has a JD/Law degree, is admitted to practice in Spain, and brings 8+ years of in-house or related experience in content licensing, IP, and complex commercial agreements.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English.
• JD/Law degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Spain.
• Minimum of eight years’ experience as a practicing lawyer, with in-house experience preferred.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating major content licensing, distribution and other complex agreements.
• Strong understanding of copyright and intellectual property laws.
• Ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Review, structure and negotiate commercial agreements across sales, product, technology, finance, content licensing, events, SaaS, digital advertising and sponsorship.
• Provide in-house commercial legal support to Reuters business and operational units globally.
• Counsel and educate Go-to-Market teams on contracting best practices and risk management.
• Advise on key contractual matters to support business objectives and risk balance.
• Collaborate with Thomson Reuters lawyers worldwide to ensure privacy, data security and regulatory compliance.
• Uphold Thomson Reuters Trust Principles in all activities.
