Join Merck Gruppe as a Senior Cloud Platform Back-End Engineer in the Data & AI Solutions team, where you'll leverage your AWS expertise to enhance cloud-based analytics platforms critical to drug development. This role involves designing new features, optimizing performance, and maintaining compliance in a collaborative and agile work environment. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a university degree in a relevant field.
Your Role: As a Senior Cloud Platform Back-End Engineer in the Data & AI Solutions - Engineering team within Healthcare R&D, you will leverage your AWS expertise to enhance a critical cloud-based analytics platform for drug development.
Your role includes implementing the technical roadmap, maintaining platform functionalities, and adapting to emerging technologies while managing infrastructure and security. Responsibilities involve designing new features, overseeing deployments, and optimizing performance updates. You will also implement data archival strategies and manage compliance with data regulations.
This position requires on-site presence in Spain and offers a multicultural, agile work environment with autonomy in decision-making.
Who You Are:
· A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
· Exceptional problem-solving skills.
· Around 5 years of relevant experience.
· A proven track record of building and delivering secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native systems using AWS services at an enterprise level.
· Fluency in English with excellent communication skills.
· Willingness to work in a multinational environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the US, Europe (primarily Germany), and India.
· A strong sense of accountability and ownership, with a capacity for rapid learning.
Key Technical Skills and Experience:
· Programming Skills: In-depth experience in Python, relational databases, SQL, and strong proficiency in an object oriented programming languages such as Scala, C#, or Java.
· Architecture: Knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices built on AWS, with experience in AWS Lambda (using the boto3 library) and serverless design.
· Cloud Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant AWS services ecosystem (VPC, IAM, STS, EKS, RDS, EC2, ECS, SQS, SNS, Route 53, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Secrets Manager, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, MWAA (Airflow)).
· Containerization: Experience in building and deploying container services (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate).
· Best Practices: Solid grounding in design principles such as object-oriented programming (OOP) and design patterns (SOLID), along with a deeper understanding of data and service contracts. Excellent code and technical documentation as well as experience with code review.
· CI/CD & Automation: In-depth understanding of CI/CD pipelines, with experience in building and deploying CI/CD pipelines (preferably using Azure DevOps).
· Testing Framework: Skilled in using testing and mocking frameworks to create unit and integration tests that ensure application reliability and functionality.
· Security: Familiarity with AWS security best practices (MFA, encryption, user roles & policies).
· Data Tools: Experience with Iceberg and Snowflake.
Nice to Have:
· Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK for infrastructure automation, Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management.
· Experience in building streaming applications (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).
· Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
