Join us as a Senior Charge Nurse at NHS Ayrshire & Arran

The State Hospital, located in South Lanarkshire, is a high secure forensic mental health and learning disability service serving patients from Scotland and Northern Ireland. Its primary aim is to support patients' safe transfer to appropriate lower security levels.

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and compassionate individual to join our specialist team as a Senior Charge Nurse in high secure forensic care. This role offers a unique leadership opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred, and evidence-based care to individuals with complex mental health and learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage care delivery within one of our wards, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Demonstrate professional and managerial accountability.
  • Inspire, motivate, and support staff in a challenging environment.
  • Promote innovation, service improvement, and team development.
  • Maintain excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Manage resources effectively, balancing safe care with budgetary responsibilities.
Candidate Requirements
  • First-Level Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse with post-registration experience.
  • Proven track record of leadership, innovation, and service improvement.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of safe care principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional accountability.
  • Experience in financial and resource management.

This is a role that offers the chance to make a significant impact within a highly specialized setting, working as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to recovery-focused, trauma-informed care.

Additional Information
