We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Bioinformatician to join our Bioinformatics team, supporting the development of CentoDX, our advanced cloud-based bioinformatics platform. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable data analysis pipelines and actively contribute to algorithm optimization, data integration, and automation across our clinical diagnostics workflows.
- Design, develop, and maintain bioinformatics analysis pipelines for sequence alignment, variant calling, annotation, and other data processing pipelines.
- Lead the upgrade and enhancement of genomic bioinformatic data and pipelines, ensuring compatibility and accuracy
- Maintain and enhance internal MySQL databases and ensure regular updates from external data sources (e.g., gnomAD, ClinVar, HGMD, RefSeq)
- Oversee the continual update and validation of gene, transcript, and functional annotation pipelines in line with best practices
- Drive development and refinement of bioinformatics algorithms to improve diagnostic accuracy and data interpretation
- Lead the automation of tertiary analysis pipelines, ensuring scalability, reproducibility, and high-throughput performance
- Collaborate closely with the Dry lab teams to translate scientific requirements into production-ready tools and support clinical decision-making
- Identify and implement strategies for continuous improvement in data workflows, system performance, and data quality
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field with 5+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant industry experienceProven expertise in Python for bioinformatics software and pipeline developmentHands-on experience in NGS data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, WES/WGS, variant interpretation)Strong understanding of genomic data standards, formats (VCF, BED, GTF), and bioinformatics best practicesDemonstrated experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS preferred) with tools like AWS Batch, Lambda, or Step FunctionsExperience with relational databases, particularly MySQL, for data management and integrationSolid understanding of software engineering principles, version control (Git), and reproducible research workflowsStrong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and align with company objectivesExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teamsWith employees from over 50 nations, CENTOGENE is a truly international company with offices is in Rostock, Berlin, Delhi, Boston, Valencia, Belgrade, and São Paulo.
