Job summary

The Flex in Bilbao, Spain, seeks a Senior Software Engineer specializing in backend development and data engineering to build scalable, data‑driven applications. You will own design, implementation, and optimization of backend services and data pipelines.

Collaborate with data scientists and engineers, work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Spark, and cloud platforms, and design robust RESTful APIs. You’ll help shape the architecture and ensure performance and reliability in a fast‑moving, agile team.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in CS or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software, backend, and data handling experience.
• Strong programming in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and Docker is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and data pipelines.
• Build and optimize complex database queries and data models (SQL and NoSQL).
• Implement robust APIs for data access and service integration.
• Work with large datasets, ensuring data integrity, efficiency, and performance.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other engineers to deliver data-driven solutions.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code.
• Develop and implement testing strategies to ensure software quality and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to backend services and data processing.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology stack selection.
• Optimize system performance and ensure scalability of applications.
