UST España & Latam seeks a Senior Database Platform Engineer to lead Azure database migrations and modernize workloads toward PostgreSQL. You will onboard application teams to Azure, migrate from Oracle and MS SQL Server, and build automated, self-service database capabilities.

Based in Madrid with a hybrid work model (3 days in office, 2 remote), collaborate across application, platform, and vendor teams to drive end-to-end migration strategies in a regulated enterprise environment.

Formación

• 5–7+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer with Oracle and/or MS SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Experience migrating databases from on-premises to Azure database services (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL).
• Strong understanding of on-prem and cloud database environments.
• Experience designing automated, self-service database capabilities using IaC or platform tooling.
• Strong DevOps mindset and "you build it, you run it" operational model.
• Excellent communication across application, platform, and vendor teams.
• English at least B2+/C1.

Responsabilidades

• Support Agile Release Trains (ARTs) onboarding to Azure databases (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL).
• Define end-to-end database migration strategies with application teams.
• Execute migrations to Azure with a preference for Azure SQL and Oracle DB services; support PostgreSQL.
• Act as a technical bridge between application teams, Azure platform teams, central DB teams, and vendors.
• Enable automated, self-service database operations (provisioning, access, backup, monitoring, patching).
• Educate and coach teams on cloud database concepts, platform standards, and operational responsibilities.
• Contribute to reusable templates, reference architectures, and onboarding assets for Azure DB adoption at scale.

We are looking for a Senior Database Platform / Forward Deployed Engineer to play a key role in onboarding application teams to Azure database services, leading database migrations from Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server to Azure, and modernizing workloads towards PostgreSQL where feasible.

We are strengthening our cloud database capabilities to support application teams in migrating from on‑premises databases to secure, scalable Azure database services.

As part of our cloud platform evolution, we provide curated Azure DB offerings, automation, and self‑service capabilities that enable product teams to modernize their data layer while reducing dependency on central DBA operations.

Work model is hybrid in Madrid (3 days at the office, 2 days remote working), feel free to apply if you are also open for relocation!

Responsibilities:

As a Database Platform Engineer, you will work closely with multiple application and platform teams, acting as a technical enabler and migration specialist within a complex enterprise environment.

Support multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and product teams in onboarding to Azure database services (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL)

Assess existing on‑premises Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, analysing migration feasibility, risks, and constraintsDefine and drive end‑to‑end database migration strategies in collaboration with application teams.

Execute migrations from on‑prem environments to Azure, with a strong preference for Azure SQL and Oracle DB services, and support transformation to PostgreSQL where technically and functionally feasible.

Act as a technical bridge between application teams, Azure platform teams, central DB teams, and Oracle/Microsoft vendors

Enable left‑shifted database operations by introducing automation, self‑service patterns, and standardized operational models.

Design and implement automation for database lifecycle operations such as:

• Provisioning
• Access management
• Backup & restore
• Monitoring
• Patching and basic operations

We need Azure DB experience with service set-up, on-prem vs cloud assessment, preparation for DB migration and related challenges. Followed by setting up a support model.

Educate and coach application teams on cloud database concepts, platform standards, and operational responsibilities

Contribute to reusable templates, reference architectures, documentation, and onboarding assets to support Azure DB adoption at scale.

Mandatory requirements:

5–7+ years of hands‑on experience as a Database Engineer working with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.

Proven experience in migrating databases from on‑premises to Azure database services (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL)

Strong understanding of database fundamentals across on‑prem and cloud environments.

Experience designing and implementing automated, self‑service database capabilities, using Infrastructure as Code or platform tooling.

Strong DevOps mindset and familiarity with “you build it, you run it” operational models.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across application, platform, and vendor teams.

Pragmatic, solution‑oriented approach and ability to operate in complex, regulated enterprise environments.
