About Stark

Stark builds the world’s most powerful electric motorcycles. From the VARG MX to the road‑legal VARG EX & SM, our bikes have won world championships and are engineered to outperform anything with a combustion engine.

We’re based in Sant Boi, Barcelona, growing fast (77% year‑on‑year), and building a team that will take us even further. If you want to work on a product that people are genuinely obsessed with, this is it.

Stark will become the global market leader in premium motorcycles. Building premium motorcycles requires innovation and we need your help to make us succeed.

Our mission is to lead the way towards a sustainable motorcycle industry, by reducing plastic and CO2 pollution.

This will be achieved by building sustainable products that are superior to traditional technology in terms of Performance, Emotion and Design.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer with solid, hands‑on experience in Beckhoff automation technology to design, develop, and maintain the control systems of our battery and vehicle production lines. You will own the automation architecture of production equipment end to end – from PLC software and motion control to safety, HMI, and data connectivity – and act as the technical reference for Beckhoff‑based systems across the plant.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, program, and commission control systems based on Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 (Structured Text / IEC 61131-3), including software architecture, libraries, and coding standards.
  • Configure and troubleshoot EtherCAT networks, Beckhoff IPCs (CX / C60xx series), and EtherCAT I/O terminals.
  • Develop and tune motion control applications (TwinCAT NC/PTP, drives, servo axes) for assembly, handling, and dispensing stations.
  • Implement and validate functional safety with TwinSAFE (safety logic, safe I/O, risk assessment support per ISO 13849).
  • Design and maintain HMIs (TwinCAT HMI or equivalent) with clear alarm handling and operator guidance.
  • Integrate stations with plant IT systems: MES connectivity, traceability, data acquisition via ADS / OPC UA / MQTT.
  • Lead automation scope in new line installations: URS/FDS definition, supplier follow‑up, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and ramp‑up.
  • Debug and resolve complex automation issues in production; support root cause analysis with Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality.
  • Own the backup management of all line equipment: PLC programs, HMI projects, drive/servo parameters, vision system configurations, and IPC images – including versioning, scheduled backups, and recovery procedures.
  • Standardize and document automation solutions (software templates, electrical interfaces, naming conventions).
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians; review third‑party integrator code for compliance with plant standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement: cycle time optimization, downtime reduction, predictive data collection (TwinCAT Scope, Analytics).
What you will bring to Stark
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, with solid hands‑on expertise in Beckhoff systems: TwinCAT 3, EtherCAT, Beckhoff IPC hardware, and I/O.
  • Strong PLC programming skills in Structured Text (IEC 61131-3), including object‑oriented extensions, function block design, and library development.
  • Proven experience with motion control (servo drives, axis commissioning, camming/gearing) in production machinery.
  • Experience with machine safety implementation (TwinSAFE or equivalent) and safety standards (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061).
  • Experience integrating PLCs with higher‑level systems (MES, SCADA, databases) via ADS, OPC UA, or similar protocols.
  • Experience integrating and configuring vision systems (Keyence, Cognex, or similar) in automated production stations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics; comfortable working with electrical panels alongside Maintenance.
  • Full commissioning experience: from bench testing to SAT on the production floor.
  • English: mandatory (working language for documentation and supplier communication).
Nice to Have
  • Spanish language skills, or willingness to learn.
  • Experience in automotive, battery, or e‑mobility manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal / S7 (coexistence with legacy lines).
  • Robot integration experience (FANUC).
  • C#/.NET or Python for ADS‑based tooling, test automation, or data pipelines.
  • TwinCAT HMI, TwinCAT Analytics, or TwinCAT Vision experience.
  • Beckhoff official training certifications.
Why work with us?
  • The chance to work on a product people are genuinely passionate about.
  • A fast‑growing company with real momentum.
  • A creative, international team based in Barcelona.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Direct access to riders, race teams, and the product – this is not a remote‑from‑the‑product role.
  • Subsidized lunch in our in‑house restaurant.
  • Free access to our in‑house gym (including weekends!).
  • 30 days of paid vacation.
