Overview

The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a highly-skilled Senior Applied Scientist to lead the development and implementation of novel algorithms and push the boundaries of efficient inference for GenAI models. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving the development of GenAI technologies that can handle Amazon-scale use cases and have a significant impact on our customers' experiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of different decoding algorithms and models, and iterate quickly to improve results
• Develop deep learning models for compression, system optimization, and inference
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers and scientists to identify and solve complex problems in GenAI
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineers, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD, or Master’s degree and 5+ years of applied research experience
• 5+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a focus on GenAI
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing decoding algorithms and knowledge of model compression, optimization, and inference
• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal systems
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensor Flow or PyTorch
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and critically about complex problems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Experience with patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits.
