ISGlobal Scientific Data Manager Position

ISGlobal is seeking a motivated Scientific Data Manager for federated analyses at the Department of Genetics, UMC Groningen, The Netherlands, to work on the ATHLETE (Advancing Tools for Human Early Lifecourse Exposome Research and Translation) project. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon research and innovation programme, the project aims to implement the exposome in birth cohorts to study environmental risk factors affecting health outcomes during the first two decades of life.

The Scientific Data Manager will develop DataSHIELD-based federated analysis tools, assist scientists in using these tools, and contribute to the project's goals regarding FAIR data use. Responsibilities may include onboarding activities, data infrastructure migration and maintenance, and advising on tool development and infrastructure use.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop software tools for federated analyses
• Support end-users in utilizing analysis tools for their research

• Promote data use in line with FAIR principles and data harmonization
• Assist with data entry and data disclosure within the infrastructure
• Maintain and upgrade the technical infrastructure
• Publish and present scientific work involving federated analysis
• Participate actively in the DataSHIELD community, focusing on MOLGENIS Armadillo software tools

Training and Experience / Qualifications

• Diploma in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related fields
• Experience managing complex data and performing statistical analyses in R
• Experience with federated analysis tools: DataSHIELD, Armadillo, Opal
• Proficiency in scientific programming languages: R and Python
• Experience working with large datasets: manipulation, analysis, visualization
• Knowledge of FAIR principles
• Experience guiding scientists and establishing research networks
• Experience in epidemiological, medical, or laboratory sciences is advantageous
