The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Science Education Officer to join our Communications and Strategy teams.

As part of our core mission to bring our results back to society, IBEC develops science education projects to contribute to the democratization of science, bringing research closer to different profiles of society and, at the same time, promotes scientific vocations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing educational and outreach initiatives to promote science among diverse audiences. This role requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to engage with different stakeholders, from school children to the public and professionals.

These activities are carried out within the framework of the Severo Ochoa Programme, which recognizes and supports research centers of excellence in Spain. As part of both the Communications and Strategy teams, the selected candidate will ensure that IBEC’s educational initiatives align with its strategic objectives and contribute to its visibility and impact.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Coordination and development of initiatives: Planning, execution, and follow-up of educational and outreach activities, ensuring their impact and alignment with IBEC’s mission. Activities include: Crazy about Bioengineering, Science education for rural schools, Magnet alliance, Escolab workshops.
  • Educational content creation: Designing and implementing activities, workshops, and materials to communicate science in an engaging and accessible way.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Establishing collaborations with schools, universities, and institutions to foster science education and public engagement.
  • Event organization: Coordinating and participating in science festivals, workshops, open days, and other outreach activities.
  • Strategic alignment: Working closely with the Communications and Strategy teams to integrate education and outreach efforts into IBEC’s broader objectives.
  • Impact assessment: Evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives and preparing reports to improve future activities.
Requirements for candidates: Essential:
  • 1+ years of experience in science education, outreach, or public engagement.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science, Science Communication, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience in designing and delivering educational content for different audiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of people, from children to senior citizens.
  • Fluent in English, Spanish, and Catalan.
  • A proactive and creative mindset, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Advantageous:
  • Experience in managing science communication projects in a research or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of evaluation methods to assess the impact of educational activities.
  • Familiarity with digital tools for education and outreach.

  • Full time contract (37.5h).

Induction programme to facilitate incorporation at IBEC and additional support is provided for foreigners to obtain Visa-working permit and to install in Barcelona.
