CNAG researchers participate in major International Genome Initiatives and occupies approximately 1,400 square meters of laboratory and office space, operating Illumina instruments and Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers that produce more than 25 Tb of sequencing data per day. LUCIA - LUng Cancer-related risk factors and their Impact Assessment : LUCIA is a project funded by the European commission HORIZON-MISS-2021-CANCER-02 Europe Programme. Its key aim is to constitute a toolbox for discovering and understanding new risk factors that contribute to lung cancer (LC) development.

About the Team : The Sequencing unit provides highly specialized support in next generation genomics to national and international researchers and clinicians.

The Role : The successful candidate will work closely with the head of the Long-read Sequencing team developing, implementing and running protocols for long read sequencing.

Responsibilities :

• Preparation of samples for sequencing
• Implementing new protocols
• Keeping rigorous audit trails of the work carried out, writing and updating documentation such as Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)
• Recognizing and reporting erroneous protocol outcomes
• Stock and orders management

Professional Experience : At least 3 years of work experience in molecular biological procedures, in particular PCR, cloning, DNA restriction enzymes digestion and HMW DNA / RNA extraction procedures.

Must Have :

• Excellent laboratory techniques and able to work very reliably, pay attention to detail and work as part of a team
• Capable of working with computers and common software packages
• Should be very able with laboratory devices
• Able to understand and speak English

Desirable but not required :

• Experience with the 2nd and 3rd generation of DNA sequencing technology
• Experience with ultra-HMW DNA extraction

Education and Training : Master or PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or similar.

Technical Skills : Advanced MS Office skills.

• Work safely in a laboratory, maintaining excellent housekeeping.
• Understand and follow quality procedures to meet the requirements of quality standards relevant to the workplace.
• Prepare for laboratory tasks using the appropriate scientific techniques, procedures and methods.
• Produce reliable, accurate data and keep accurate records of laboratory work undertaken and results.
