The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Full-time Safety Manager to establish, implement, oversee, and enforce effective workplace health and safety programs, ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and AZA regulations/standards, and foster a culture of safety awareness and compliance to ensure the welfare of employees, volunteers, guests, contractors, and vendors.
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, updating, maintaining, and delivering employee training, record-keeping, safety incident investigations and mitigation, safety and fire inspections, the Zoo’s emergency management plan, and general compliance to meet OSHA requirements. This role will also oversee the inventory of PPE, Safety Data Sheets, and First Aid equipment/supplies, create and deliver safety presentations for all staff, identify safety hazards, and conduct safety drills routinely.
This position reports to the Vice President of Security and Safety Operations. It is an exempt role under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires working over forty hours per week.
Minimum Training and Experience

Minimum training and experience include an associate degree in safety or a related field, with a bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience. Must have excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Two years of safety or related experience required. Must be 21+ years old, capable of walking 5-7 miles daily, climbing ladders, traversing roofs, and lifting weights up to 40 pounds. Knowledge of OSHA regulations is essential; OSHA and COSS certifications are preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software is required. Flexibility for work schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Valid driver’s license and insurability are necessary. The Toledo Zoo maintains a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.
