A restructuring lawyer provides legal advice and representation to clients facing financial distress, including both debtors and creditors. They also educate funds and PE firms on workouts and restructuring schemes to preserve value through recovery or enforcement, and to mitigate impacts when value approaches zero. The role involves both contentious and non-contentious matters, such as negotiating debt repayment plans, restructuring plans, workout schemes, driving recovery strategies, and handling insolvency and liquidation processes.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Advising Clients: Providing legal counsel on restructuring options, including debt refinancing, rescheduling, plans, workouts, and insolvency procedures.
• Negotiating and Drafting Restructuring Plans: Negotiating with debtors/creditors on repayment terms and drafting legal documents. Challenging restructuring plans in court when advising creditors or equity, and providing legal arguments to the court when plans are contested.
• Insolvency Litigation: Handling disputes related to restructuring and insolvency, including enforcing securities and navigating legal proceedings.
• Debt Market: Advising on transactions in secondary markets and securitization, focusing on NPLs and portfolio deals, representing sellers or buyers.
• Market Research and Opportunity Identification: Identifying restructuring opportunities and developing strategies for clients.
• Client Communication and Relationship Management: Maintaining strong relationships, clearly communicating complex legal concepts, and collaborating with legal and advisory teams.

• At least 9-10 years of relevant experience.
• Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Commercially oriented, client-focused, and able to exceed expectations.
• Capable of analyzing complex legal and financial information and providing clear solutions.
• Able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to build trust and develop effective relationships internally and externally.
