The Carlos III National Cancer Research Center Foundation is seeking applications for the position of Scientific Director of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO).
The CNIO was established in 1998 to develop excellence in cancer research. Its current building, inaugurated in 2002 on the Chamartín campus of the Carlos III Institute of Health, spans over 12,000 square meters and hosts more than 400 researchers across 33 research groups working in basic, applied, and clinical research. The CNIO is recognized globally for its scientific output, ranking among the top 10 institutes worldwide in research productivity based on high-impact publications. It has a significant international presence, with over a third of staff being foreign and English serving as the working language.
CNIO operates as a Public Sector Foundation governed by a Board of Trustees, with a Delegate Commission managing scientific, research, teaching, and personnel policies. It maintains independent management mechanisms allowing flexibility in hiring, procurement, and strategic planning. The Scientific Direction reports to the Board of Trustees and collaborates with the Management. An International Scientific Advisory Board evaluates scientific activities and provides strategic recommendations.
