Descripción del empleo

Research Field : Engineering

Researcher Profile : First Stage Researcher (R1)

Country : Spain

Application Deadline : 31 Jul 2025 - 00 : 00 (UTC)

Type of Contract : Temporary

Job Status : Full-time

Is the job funded through the EU Research Framework Programme? No

Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No

Offer Description

The project focuses on synthesizing networks of nanowires using a novel process developed by the group, involving rapid growth at ultra-fast rates from an aerosol of catalyst nanoparticles in a gas phase. This CVD method allows for large-scale production of nanowire networks, enabling various applications in energy storage and other fields. The PhD aims to understand nanowire growth processes—such as alloy formation, crystal nucleation, and layer growth—for different chemistries including Si, SiC, and metal oxides. The student will also work on controlling nanowire structure, producing heterostructures, and exploring new nanowire chemistries.

The student will assist in designing and building advanced CVD synthesis and monitoring equipment, perform synthesis experiments, and conduct multi-scale characterization using techniques like electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The position is within a collaborative team funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant, with potential for a secondment in an external collaborating laboratory.

  • Master’s and undergraduate degrees in inorganic chemistry, nanofabrication, materials science, chemical engineering, or applied physics.
  • Experience in thermocatalytic synthesis of nanomaterials, thin-film deposition, aerosol science, or instrumentation construction is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Additional Information

Applications are processed upon receipt; early application is encouraged as the position may close after ten working days. The working language is English, and full proficiency is required.

What you will find at IMDEA : a stimulating environment for professional growth, commitment to diversity and work-life balance, and equal opportunity encouragement for female applicants.

Additional benefits include technical and transversal skills training, and opportunities to connect with alumni.

Additional notes :

  • Full-time employment with enrollment in a relevant doctoral program.
  • Duration of the doctoral contract : 36 months.
  • Position available immediately and open until filled.
