A leading research institute is seeking research scientists at postdoctoral and predoctoral levels to develop methodologies for cryoET data analysis. Candidates will contribute to a collaborative research project examining biological processes using advanced computational techniques. Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and a background in Life Sciences research are required.

Formación

  • Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar.
  • Strong background in MATLAB and experience in Deep Learning.
  • Solid foundation in numerical mathematics, proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, and/or CUDA.

Responsabilidades

  • Develop new methodologies in cryoET data analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Dynamo software platform.
  • Analyze cryoET datasets provided by external collaborators.

Instituto Biofisika (IBF)

The Instituto Biofisika (IBF) is a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research and promotes a highly collaborative culture.

Located at the Leioa Campus of the University of the Basque Country, IBF is currently accepting expressions of interest for research scientist positions at both postdoctoral and predoctoral levels.

Research Group and Project

Successful candidates will join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography (cryoET), led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez. The group advances computational methodologies for the automated analysis and interpretation of 3D cellular imagery, primarily through its in-house software platform Dynamo.

Recent research funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program has provided insights into the mechanics of exocytosis in living cells via cryo electron tomography processing. The group now aims to extend this tool by integrating novel deep learning techniques to identify and characterize small, flexible proteins within their natural environments.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new methodologies in cryoET data analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Dynamo software platform.
  • Analyze cryoET datasets provided by external collaborators.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar.
  • Strong background in MATLAB.
  • Interest in Life Sciences research.
  • Experience in Deep Learning or other AI methods.
  • Solid foundation in numerical mathematics, including optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, and/or CUDA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Image Processing for Electron or Light Microscopy.
  • Experience in Molecular Dynamics Simulations.
Position Details

Start date is flexible, aiming for Fall 2025, with funding secured until August 2029. Salaries range from €27,000 to €42,000 for BSc/MSc holders and €38,000 to €53,000 for PhD holders, aligned with skills and experience.
