The Instituto Biofisika (IBF) invites applications for Research Scientist positions focusing on computational methods for analyzing 3D cellular imagery. Candidates will engage in exciting research involving cryo electron tomography and deep learning integrations, contributing to significant projects from Fall 2025 onwards.
The Instituto Biofisika (IBF), a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research. Located at the Leioa Campus of the University of the Basque Country, it offers a highly collaborative environment.
Currently, the IBF is accepting expressions of interest for research scientist positions at both postdoctoral and predoctoral levels. Successful candidates will join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography (cryoET), led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez.
The group specializes in developing computational methods for analyzing 3D cellular imagery, primarily using its in-house software platform Dynamo. Recent projects, funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program, have provided insights into exocytosis mechanisms in living cells through cryo electron tomography processing. The group is now extending its tools by integrating deep learning techniques to identify and characterize small, flexible proteins within their natural environments.
The successful applicant will contribute to developing these methodologies, maintaining the software, and analyzing cryoET datasets from external collaborators.
Positions are flexible with an anticipated start in Fall 2025, with funding secured until August 2029. Salaries range from €27,000–€42,000 for BSc/MSc holders and €38,000–€53,000 for PhD holders, depending on experience and qualifications.
Interested candidates should submit a single PDF including their Curriculum Vitae with academic record and a motivation letter to ******.
