The Instituto Biofisika (IBF), a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is located at the Leioa Campus of the University of the Basque Country. It focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research and promotes a highly collaborative culture.
Currently, the IBF is accepting expressions of interest for research scientist positions at both postdoctoral and predoctoral levels. Successful candidates will join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography (cryoET), led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez.
The group specializes in developing computational methodologies for the analysis and interpretation of 3D cellular imagery, primarily through its in-house software platform Dynamo. Recent research funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program has advanced understanding of exocytosis mechanisms in living cells via cryo electron tomography processing techniques. The group aims to extend these tools by integrating novel deep learning methods to identify and characterize small, flexible proteins in their natural environments.
The successful applicant will contribute to developing these methodologies, maintaining and enhancing the software, and analyzing cryoET datasets from external collaborators.
Positions are flexible with a start date in Fall 2025, with funding secured until August 2029. Salaries are aligned with skills and experience, ranging from €27,000–€42,000 for BSc/MSc holders and €38,000–€53,000 for PhD holders, according to CSIC standards.
Interested candidates should send a single PDF including their Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter to ******.
