A leading research center in Spain invites applications for Research Scientist positions at postdoctoral and predoctoral levels. Candidates will focus on developing computational methods and analyzing datasets in a project involving cryo-electron tomography and deep learning. Successful applicants will have strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, and C++, and a passion for Life Sciences. Positions offer flexible start dates with secure funding until August 2029, with salaries ranging based on qualifications.
The Instituto Biofisika (IBF), a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research and fosters a highly collaborative environment.
Located at the Leioa Campus of the University of the Basque Country, IBF is accepting expressions of interest for research scientist positions at both postdoctoral and predoctoral levels. Successful candidates will join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography (cryoET), led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez.
The group is dedicated to developing computational methods for analyzing and interpreting 3D cellular imagery, primarily through its software platform Dynamo. This research has led to significant insights into the mechanics of exocytosis in living cells, especially through recent projects funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program, which involved developing new cryo-electron tomography processing techniques.
The current focus is on extending these tools by integrating novel deep learning techniques for identifying and characterizing small, flexible proteins within their natural environments. The successful applicant will contribute to developing these methodologies, maintaining software, and analyzing cryoET datasets from external collaborators.
Positions are flexible regarding start date, aiming for Fall 2025, with funding secured until August 2029. Salaries range from €27,000 to €42,000 for BSc/MSc candidates and €38,000 to €53,000 for PhD holders, based on skills and experience.
