The Instituto Biofisika (IBF) seeks Research Scientists for its Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography. Candidates will engage in cutting-edge research combining computational methods with deep learning to analyze 3D cellular imagery. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative methodologies in a collaborative research environment.
The Instituto Biofisika (IBF), a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research. Located at the Leioa Campus of UPV/EHU, the centre fosters a highly collaborative culture.
Currently, IBF is accepting expressions of interest for research scientist positions at both postdoctoral and predoctoral levels. Successful candidates will join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography (cryoET), led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez.
The group advances computational methodologies for analyzing and interpreting 3D cellular imagery, primarily through its software platform Dynamo. Recent research funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program has provided insights into exocytosis mechanisms via cryo electron tomography processing. The group aims to extend this tool by integrating deep learning techniques to identify and characterize small, flexible proteins in their natural environments.
The successful applicant will contribute to developing these methodologies, maintaining the software, and analyzing cryoET datasets from external collaborators.
Positions are flexible with a start in Fall 2025 and funding secured until August 2029. Salaries range from €27,000–€42,000 for BSc/MSc candidates and €38,000–€53,000 for PhD candidates, aligned with experience.
Interested candidates should send a single PDF including their Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter to ******.
