The Experimental Therapeutics Programme (ETP) at the CNIO is composed of a multidisciplinary team of biologists and medicinal chemists dedicated to the discovery and development of novel antitumor agents. We are currently seeking a PhD-level scientist to join the Biology Section of the ETP to cover a maternity leave. The candidate will be involved in the validation of molecular targets for cancer therapy and in the mechanistic characterization of targeted modulators developed within the Programme, using cellular models.

The selected candidate will perform a diverse number of activities working in this environment.

• Development and / or adaptation of cellular assays for mechanistic studies in a high-throughput screening (HTS) format.
• Design and execution of in vitro assays to investigate the mechanism of action of candidate compounds.
• Generation of genetically modified cell lines, either by knockdown or overexpression of target genes, for the evaluation of lead compounds identified within the ETP.

Selection Criteria

• PhD in Biomedical Sciences, with a minimum of four years of postdoctoral experience, ideally in drug discovery and development.
• Experience should include the evaluation of the biological and therapeutic activity of compounds in cellular models.
• Proven expertise in target validation methodologies, including genetic manipulation (knockdown / overexpression), development of drug-resistant cell lines, and analysis of signaling pathways downstream of the target.
• Strong background in molecular and cellular biology techniques. Experience in cellular mechanistic HTS assays will be considered.
• Management of molecular biology techniques to knockdown or overexpression of a target in eukaryotic cells. Management of cellular an molecular biology techniques for mechanistic studies Managing of HTS format of cellular assays.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, with a high level of motivation and a strong commitment.
