Job summary

Jobgether SRL, based in Spain, is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer – Payments. You will be the first technical lead within a newly established Payments squad, shaping architecture and engineering standards for a rapidly scaling platform.

This is a highly hands-on leadership role where you will code, mentor engineers, and set the strategy to improve payment accuracy, processing efficiency, and cost-to-process as the system grows.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a technical lead with ownership of a squad's delivery outcomes.
• Hands-on engineering background with experience writing design documents and reviewing pull requests.
• Ability to coach engineers while delivering technical direction.
• Experience shaping a team's ways of working and balancing speed, quality, resilience.
• Experience managing cross-team technical sequencing and dependencies.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and drive blockers to resolution.
• Strong systems-thinking and architectural skills for scalable services.
• Experience in fast-paced environments valuing autonomy and ownership.
• Experience with payments is desirable but not essential.
• Experience improving processing efficiency or cost-to-process in high-volume services is a plus.
• Experience scaling early-stage services into production infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the Payments squad's delivery outcomes and establish engineering standards.
• Lead by writing technical specs, reviewing architecture decisions, and solving complex problems directly through code.
• Define technical and architectural strategy for the payments domain and turn ambiguous challenges into actionable direction.
• Drive improvements in payment accuracy, processing efficiency, and cost reduction as the platform scales.
• Design and establish the squad's operating model balancing speed, quality, resilience, and sustainable development.
• Own technical sequencing and cross-team dependencies, remove blockers, and keep priorities visible to stakeholders.
• Build a high-performing team by coaching junior engineers and aligning with leadership on growth needs.
