About Biome Makers

Founded in California’s Silicon Valley in 2015, we are pioneering soil health with BeCrop technology. Our work integrates soil microbiology into agricultural decision-making to optimize practices and reverse soil degradation. With labs worldwide and impacts across over 1 million acres, we are leading the way in soil functionality and agricultural sustainability.

Position : Senior Data Scientist

Location : Spain (remote)

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement statistical and machine learning models on complex biological and environmental data, including microbiome datasets.
  • Prototype and evaluate approaches to novel, unstructured problems and deliver solutions.
  • Analyze microbiome and spatial data using reproducible workflows (e.g., RMarkdown, Jupyter).
  • Integrate GIS data into predictive and inferential models.
  • Maintain well-documented, modular code with version control (Git) following best practices.
  • Manage automated workflows using CI / CD tools like Jenkins.
  • Communicate results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to planning and delivering analytical solutions for projects and clients.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, environmental science, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Statistician.
  • Hands-on experience with biological count or compositional data (e.g., microbiome, gene expression).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical inference and machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Python and R, with experience in version control (Git).
  • Experience with CI / CD tools like Jenkins and data workflows (RMarkdown, Jupyter).
  • Familiarity with SQL, GIS tools, and R libraries.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Self-driven and proactive in managing multiple tasks.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and tools.
  • Background in soil or environmental / agri-food data.
