IFF is a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients and health & biosciences. The Scent R&D team in Benicarló, Spain, seeks a PhD-level scientist to develop biocatalytic methods for scent molecules and to manage end-to-end projects from concept to scale-up.

The role emphasizes enzymatic catalysis, organic synthesis, and collaboration across chemists, biochemists, and engineers. English fluency and leadership potential are valued in this innovative, sustainability-driven environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in biocatalysis, ideally within an industrial setting.
• Strong expertise in enzymatic catalysis and organic synthesis.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Self-driven, adaptable, and eager to contribute to innovation.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement novel biocatalytic methodologies for scent molecule development.
• Prepare technical reports highlighting research outcomes and optimization opportunities.
• Independently manage projects from concept to completion and lead initiatives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with chemists, biochemists, and chemical engineers.
• Mentor junior scientists and trainees, fostering learning and collaboration.
• Deliver training to technical teams and act as a local biocatalysis SME.
