This role is key in ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining safe operations by leading PSM activities, conducting risk assessments, and driving a safety culture across the organization. The ideal candidate will have an engineering degree and proven leadership skills in safety management.

ArcelorMittal has recently launched an initiative to improve Process Safety Management (PSM) across the Group, covering both steel and mining. As part of this, we are looking for someone to take the day-to-day responsibility to lead this in our site of Sestao.

The Process Safety Management Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating Process Safety Management (PSM) activities across the site to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and to maintain the safety of operations. This role involves the identification, analysis, and mitigation of risks associated with processes, ensuring the protection of people, the environment, and assets. The Process Safety Manager will collaborate closely with various departments including operations, maintenance, engineering, and external partners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of a PSM system in the site under the guidance of the Segment and Group. This involves working with process experts from each department, the segment and group PSM experts and potential external third party PSM experts
  • Ensure compliance with local and Group PSM regulations & standards.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs, LOPA, FMEA) and implement mitigation measures to reduce process-related risks.
  • Drive the process safety culture within the organization, promoting awareness and adherence to PSM practices at all levels.
  • Provide technical leadership on process safety issues, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for teams across the company.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on process safety management for employees and contractors.
  • Lead incident investigations related to process safety, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of PSM-related information.
  • Coordinate with other functions (e.g., reliability, maintenance, and production) to prioritize critical areas of focus based on risk assessments.
  • Track process safety performance indicators and report them to senior management.
  • Assessment of sites’ PSM readiness compared to best practices and identify major gaps
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of action plans and follow up of implementation progress of departments (along with Process and Reliability experts)
  • Ensure Units push the boundaries of operational reliability.
  • Review progress of assigned shops in a regular and structured way
  • Contribute to maintaining AM PSM standards, continually improving them and to their roll out within sites.

Requirements:

  • Engineering Degree
  • High technical expertise and management capacity
  • Influential safety leader with the ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Capability to collaborate effectively within a global team
  • Training in H&S will be valued
  • Expertise on the Health and Safety and Environmental legislation in Spain
  • A high level of proficiency in both English and Spanish is required
