Elastic in Spain seeks a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team. You will lead architectural and code-level performance initiatives to optimize Elasticsearch across distributed environments.

You will mentor engineers, design AI-assisted optimization techniques, build profiling and benchmarking automation, and partner across teams to ensure performance-first design for new features. The role demands strong Java/JVM expertise and distributed systems insight.

Formación

• Strong knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems with benchmarking tools.
• Understanding of distributed systems architecture and scaling large data stores.
• Proven track record using AI to accelerate optimization and automate benchmarking.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and work autonomously.

Responsabilidades

• Own core performance initiatives from architecture to production with high-impact optimizations.
• Develop performance models and methodologies for distributed systems.
• Drive optimization to keep Elasticsearch fast, predictable, and scalable.
• Profile system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless builds.
• Collaborate across teams to embed performance-first thinking in new features.
• Design AI-assisted optimization harnesses to streamline profiling and benchmarking.
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of performance-aware development.
