The Data Strategy & Innovation tower develops and delivers enterprise data and AI strategies aligned with business priorities, advancing analytics capabilities, managing investments, partnerships, and funds to meet organizational objectives.

As the principal data engineer, you will reengineer how we provision and secure data, making it reliable and accessible across Siemens Energy.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery, data engineering strategy, orchestration architecture, and data operations
• Define target data architecture considering business areas, data domains, and consumption patterns
• Act as product owner of the data platform, defining requirements, roadmaps, and infrastructure design to enable data sharing and governance
• Establish a modern data and AI factory operating model, monitor performance, and improve data development velocity
• Set standards and design patterns for flexible, scalable data sharing
• Implement cost management frameworks for data and platform operations
• Collaborate with data owners and teams on key initiatives, MVP scope, and future enhancements
• Work with enterprise architects and IT to define data integration and access control frameworks
• Promote modern software development practices, including Scrum and SAFe
• Stay updated on data science and engineering innovations to support data-driven decisions
• Document and present methodologies, procedures, and results to stakeholders

Skills and Capabilities

• Extensive experience in Data & Analytics, Data Architecture, and at least 5+ years in team leadership
• Strong knowledge of data ingestion, modeling, analytics, and database/data warehouse design
• Over 10 years experience in streaming and batch data pipelines, cloud and hybrid infrastructures, and streaming frameworks (AWS IoT stack)
• Hands-on with modern software development tools
• Proficient in data analysis and manipulation
• Experience with cloud providers (AWS, Azure)
• Knowledge of data mesh implementation is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, customer focus, and ability to navigate complex, global organizations
• Open-minded, eager to learn, and continuously improve skills
• Proficiency in English; German or other languages are a plus
