Job Description:

We are currently looking for a Previs Artist to help craft a new, unannounced game for Blizzard.

As a Previs Artist, you will be responsible for the creation of 3D animated sequences, cinematics, and the staging and blocking of cameras and characters for game screens.
You will have the opportunity to be a part of an exciting art team, bringing to life many characters in both in-game cinematics and interactive features of the game.

You will be partnering with experienced creative directors, character artists, technical animators, visual development artists, and more to create outstanding animated pieces. The role will be complex, creative, and fun with loads of opportunities to hone your skills and try new things.

Responsibilities
  • Draft versions of key scenes and sequences to test the action and act as a basis from which to animate, act out, illustrate, or build.
  • Work closely with the visualization director, art director, tech-anim and animation teams to create high-quality shots that showcase our characters in the required style for the game.
  • Translate creative briefs into animated sequences, researching and assembling references for the sequence.
  • Deconstruct and plan out sequences. This includes staging, blocking, camera motion, and character performance, as well as editing and compositing scenes, and rendering final animations of previs.
  • Support production planning, ensuring content is delivered according to the needs of the game.
  • Partner with character artists, technical animators, meta designers, and UI/UX to ensure characters and their animations are delivered to a specification that offers outstanding character performance within the required technical budgets.
  • Ensure your animations are designed and delivered into the game in a way that is tidy, optimized, and scalable for the game to become a long-standing, scalable live service.

Minimum Requirements
  • Previous experience in creating high-quality cinematics.
  • Understanding how animation fits into the production of game development in collaboration with other crafts and fields.
  • Experience in framing performance with cameras, timing, and composition.
  • Excellent knowledge of animating using Autodesk Maya.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong grasp of cinematic storytelling principles, pacing, and camera work.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Previs/Layout Artist in the gaming or film industry.
  • Proficiency in cinematography and editing, with a proven ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to closely collaborate to realize the creative vision.
  • Strong character animation skills, capable of effectively blocking out character movements.
  • Knowledge of industry-relevant game engines and how animation can be implemented into a game.
